1st Holly Day: Bordeaux Beret

In the sewing world, it is common for designers to have 12 free patterns during the holidays.  Honestly, I don't know if knitting designers do the same....but back in August, I told Cheryl I wanted to do 12 Holly Days with 12 freebies for our loyal readers and customers. I have been working really hard since then to create unique knitting patterns for you.  It is so rewarding to finally see Day 1 here!

The first Holly Day pattern for you is the Bordeaux Beret, which you can download here.

The beret has simple eye lace repeats making it beginner friendly. 
Terms you should be familiar with are:

• K-knit
• KFB-knit into front and back of stitch (increase)
• K2TOG-knit next two stitches together (decrease)
• SKP-slip stitch, knit the next stitch and then pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (decrease)
• P-purl
• Rnd(s)-Round(s)
• St(s)-Stitch(es)
• YO-yarn over

The Bordeaux Beret is finished with an I-cord. If you'd like a video tutorial on how do knit an I-cord, I recommend Very Pink Knits.  

Yarn: Approx. 50g [180yds] fingering weight yarn

Needles:

US 2 (2.75 mm) 16 “( cm) circular needles, DPNs, or longer circulars for magic loop

AND

US 4 (3.5mm) 16 “( cm) circular needles, DPNs, or longer circulars for magic loop

Notions: 1 st marker for beginning of round

Gauge: on larger needles, in the round stockinette stitch, blocked 9 rows = 1”, 7 sts = 1”

Finished Measurements: Finished circumference is approximately 20” (51 cm) at ribbing, blocked.

Finished height is approximately 7” (17.75 cm), blocked, not including I-cord.

 *Note: If you are knitting for a head circumference larger than 19.5”, you will need to increase the cast on stitches. You may cast on any multiple of 8. Remember 7 stitches is approximately 1”.
