1st Holly Day: Bordeaux Beret
Terms you should be familiar with are:
- K-knit
- KFB-knit into front and back of stitch (increase)
- K2TOG-knit next two stitches together (decrease)
- SKP-slip stitch, knit the next stitch and then pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (decrease)
- P-purl
- Rnd(s)-Round(s)
- St(s)-Stitch(es)
- YO-yarn over
The Bordeaux Beret is finished with an I-cord. If you'd like a video tutorial on how do knit an I-cord, I recommend Very Pink Knits.
Yarn: Approx. 50g [180yds] fingering weight yarn
Needles:
US 2 (2.75 mm) 16 “( cm) circular needles, DPNs, or longer circulars for magic loop
AND
US 4 (3.5mm) 16 “( cm) circular needles, DPNs, or longer circulars for magic loop
Notions: 1 st marker for beginning of round
Gauge: on larger needles, in the round stockinette stitch, blocked 9 rows = 1”, 7 sts = 1”
Finished Measurements: Finished circumference is approximately 20” (51 cm) at ribbing, blocked.
Finished height is approximately 7” (17.75 cm), blocked, not including I-cord.
*Note: If you are knitting for a head circumference larger than 19.5”, you will need to increase the cast on stitches. You may cast on any multiple of 8. Remember 7 stitches is approximately 1”.
