Socks, Socks, and....a scrap blanket
Since I finished the So Faded sweater, I've been in a knitting lull while putting plans together for Hypnotic Yarn's FIRST EVER knit-a-long! (Yes! This is happening and details will be coming your way soon.)
But I haven't truly been in a lull. I think that's just how I feel because I picked up a small project while I wait to start the KAL. I actually have 3 projects going on right now. Very uncommon for me. I don't like having multiple WIPs or UFOs. Wanna see what they are?
First: HY's next pattern is in testing-Birthday Socks
Here's a not so great photo of my progress as of Monday while watching my kids roll around in BJJ. Since then, I've progressed to the gusset decrease on the second sock. The birthday socks are shorties with a heel flap, turn, and gusset. The unique stitching helps the sock mold to your foot to be the perfect size! I am using the last of my Campfire Songs yarn left over from my Wool and Honey sweater.
Look out for the sock release in a few weeks!
Second: Prairie Spring socks using De la Luna yarn from the Halloween yarn + bag kit
I cannot take credit for this unbelievable pair. One of our lovely customers posted this combo on her IG this past fall. I stole the idea from her and I don't feel once ounce of guilt about it. It's perfect. The pattern has simple 1 stitch cables that wrap around the foot. It's a super easy pattern to knit and I highly recommend it. I set this project aside to knit the Birthday socks but I can't wit to pick it back up again and get it finished!
Third, and last project: a scrap blanket
Once again, I'm a thief of ideas. I see scrap blankets everywhere on social media these days. Many knitters I "follow" have a designated day to work on their UFOs or scrap blankets. I unbashfully copied this idea too. I devote my Sundays to knit on my scrap blanket. I found a mitered square pattern that uses DK weight. I chose DK so I can use DK yarn or hold double fingering. I have tons of fingering weight scraps. I don't know about you, but I have zero desire to knit a man sized couch blanket out of fingering weight. HA! These little squares knit up pretty fast. The pattern hyperlinked about shows how to pick up stitches of each square to knit on to the existing squares. This prevents from sewing all the squares together, but does still produce a lot of long tails. I should weave in tails as I go. I don't want to finish the blanket and have 1 MILLION tails to weave. Death would come swifter. LOL.
I LOVE using up every single little scrap of yarn. I use even the tiniest amount. If I run out during a square, I simple magic knot to a new scrap and keep on going. My favorite squares on the ones with multiple changes and lots of color. And I can look at each color and remember the project (s) I've made with each. A trip down memory lane with each square!
Whether you want to see or not, I'll post the progress of my scrap blanket on each blog post!
Until next time, happy Crafting!
