Pattern Release: Lianna Fingerless Mitts

Pattern Release: Lianna Fingerless Mitts

Headline News!

A NEW Hypnotic Yarn pattern is available-- Lianna Fingerless Mitts!

A few months ago, the Lianna Hat was released.  This is one of my favorite hat patterns.  You can read our blog post about the Lianna Hat.  We think the "Lianna stitch" is beginner simple but absolutely stunning so of course mitts using the design need to be created.  The Lianna Mitt design took some time.  At first, we thought an all around repeating design, just as in the hat, was the way to go so the mitts and the hat are a perfect matching set.  We realized we simply didn't like the way that turned out.  The next idea was to have a design panel on top.  We liked that much more.  The mitts include two sizes Adult S/M and Adult L/XL.

I knitted size small in Knit Picks Chroma Twist.

Pattern Essentials:

S/M: 6" (15 cm) wrist circumference and 8" (18 cm) long
M/L 6.5" (16.5 cm) wrist circumference and 9" (23 cm) long

Yarn: 150 (160) yards/ 30 (40) grams of Fingering Weight yarn (I used Knit Picks)

Needle: Size US 1 (2.25mm) DPN or long circulars for Magic Loop

Gauge: 9sts and 12 rnds =1" (10cm) in pattern stitch, unblocked and unstretched

1 marker for beginning of round
1 marker for panel design
1 marker for thumb gusset

Stitches Required:

Memorize the design repeat (4 easy rounds) and these mitts are completely mindless!  You can have them done and ready for blocking in 3-4 nights of TV watching and knitting!

The front panel design does ever so slightly pull the front a smidgen tighter than the stockinette back.  Because of this, blocking is encouraged to stretch out the front to match the back.

Easy to customize: add repeats along the wrist (before thumb gusset) and/or extra repeats on the fingers (after thumb gusset). If you aren't sure if you need extra repeats, simply try on your mitt before and after the thumb gusset to decide!

One tester created a garter stitch block along the palm pads to be more grippy while driving. Amazing idea!

It seems a little crazy to be knitting mitts in the middle of July, but summer time is the perfect time to prepare for winter.  I am in love with my Lianna coordinating set and look forward to being cozy this winter!

Did you know the FREE Magician Shortie Sock pattern and Hot Ear Balloons (an earbud pouch freebie) also use the "Lianna Stitch" design?  Check them out!
